Businesses to Light the Night Purple for National Hospice and Palliative Care Month

Local businesses to turn lights purple on November 12 at 6 PM EST in support of Alleo Health System

In observance of National Hospice and Palliative Care Month, dozens of area businesses and organizations will join Alleo Health System in the annual “Light the Night Purple” event presented by EPB, illuminating their buildings on the evening of Thursday, November 12 to raise awareness.

Hospice of Chattanooga, a part of the Alleo Health System, will also use the month of November to celebrate their 40-year anniversary. Alleo Health is the region’s only not-for-profit hospice and palliative care organization based in Chattanooga, TN, committed to providing compassionate care for every stage of life throughout 37 counties in Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina.

“Alleo Health System wants to thank our partners for helping elevate awareness of the importance of quality end-of-life care and advance care planning – not only for the individual and their families but also for this wonderful region we’ve been honored to call home for the last 40 years,” said Tracy Wood, President and CEO of Alleo Health System. “The lights are also a way for us to recognize our incredible staff who meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of people who are facing an end-of-life journey.”

Among those joining Alleo Health System in support of National Hospice and Palliative Care Month and the region-wide awareness campaign are The Tennessee Aquarium, Ruby Falls, The Westin hotel, Chambliss Law Firm, Liberty Towers, River City Company’s The Block, CHI Memorial – The Atrium, Bradley-Polk Walk-In Clinic, Cleveland Family Health Care, and The Vascular Institute at Cleveland.

In addition to the illuminated buildings on November 12, Alleo Health is hosting Wear Purple for Hospice and Palliative Care to raise awareness for advance care planning and the importance of end of life care. Alleo Health is providing purple ribbons to those who want to support the cause.

Also taking place in November is Hospice of Chattanooga’s Virtual Teen Tuesdays for grief support on Tuesday, November 3, 10, and 17 via Zoom. More information about this and other virtual grief offerings can be found at https://www.hospiceofchattanooga.org/grief-support.

Alleo Health System’s 40th anniversary and National Hospice and Palliative Care Month celebration is presented by EPB Fiber Optics and sponsored by First Horizon, McGriff Insurance Services, Sandler Training, StateServ, Chambliss Law Firm, and Cempa Community Care.

November was designated in 1982 as a month-long national effort to raise awareness for hospice care. National Hospice and Palliative Care Month recognizes the strength and compassion of the professionals and volunteers who help people live with dignity, comfort and support at the end of life. The designated color purple is associated with spirituality, the sacred, higher self and passion.
